Israeli authorities issue nationwide ban on lighting fires until end of August
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe Fire and Rescue Service issues a nationwide ban on the lighting of fires until the end of August, amid increasingly frequent wildfires in the dry season.
The ban, signed by Fire and Rescue Service chief Eyal Caspi, enters into force today and lasts until midnight on August 31.
Israelis are still permitted to light fires in barbecue grills and other vessels that are “designed for food preparation or heating,” the agency says.
The order also allows for fires to be lit in open areas that have been approved for that purpose by local government, the Nature and Parks Authority, or the Fire and Rescue Service.
