Jordan gunmen killed, sources deny there ever were hostages

Jordanian security forces have stormed the Karak castle and killed a number of gunmen, according to reports.

The forces are now combing the castle for more gunmen.

Security sources in Jordan deny media reports that hostages had been held in the fortress.

A senior security source said some people were trapped in a lower floor of the citadel when the gunmen took shelter there.

“There are no hostages. But some people who were on a lower floor were afraid of leaving as the gunmen traded fire with the security forces,” says the unnamed source.
