Knesset speaker sends condolences for parliament attack to UK counterpart

Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein sends condolences “on behalf of the members of Knesset and the people of Israel” to UK House of Commons speaker John Bercow following the deadly car-ramming and stabbing attack outside parliament in London yesterday.

“It is difficult to find the words to express my shock and horror at hearing the news of the heinous terror attack in central London yesterday,” Edelstein writes.

“In striking at some of the most honored symbols of British democracy, the attacker was clearly aiming to undermine the cherished values, traditions, and heritage that the United Kingdom has built up throughout the centuries. At his difficult hour, we stand together with you united against religiously motivated terrorism that seeks to supplant our guiding values of equality and freedom with intolerance, hatred and xenophobia.”

Last month Bercow visited Israel and the Knesset as a guest of Edelstein.
