Local Hamas branch took credit for attack
A local Hamas branch in Bethlehem’s al-Ayda refugee camp — rather than the leadership of the Gaza-based organization — took credit for the attack immediately after it was revealed that the suspect had died from his wounds on Wednesday.
The Hamas leadership in Gaza wrote in a statement on Thursday that they “celebrate” the Jerusalem bus bombing on Monday, but stopped short of claiming responsibility for the attack.
The Israel Police and Shin Bet say the bomber was linked to Hamas. Israel has arrested several Hamas members from the Bethlehem area in connection with the terror attack, that has injured 20 people.
