Police turn out water cannons on anti-government demonstrators who are blocking the Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv.
The blockage of northbound traffic follows the weekly anti-government rally on Kaplan Street, which lies just to the west of Ayalon.
Flanking a police deployment to prevent protesters from blocking the Ayalon Highway from the west, dozens of protesters reach it from the east. The blocking protesters descend from a berm, walking past a few officers onto the road as northbound traffic slows down.
The crew of at least one water cannon truck turns on the device, driving back some protesters as others chant slogans. A police officer directs traffic around the roadside disturbance. Protesters hurl a flare, causing all traffic to stop.
The scene is not unusual for protests on Kaplan Street and Ayalon Highway, where several weekly rallies have ended with a temporary shutdown of traffic and violent clashes between protesters and mounted police as well as police water cannon crews.
