Pakistan is thought likely to supply troops to an international force meant to secure the Gaza Strip, along with Azerbaijan and Indonesia, Politico reports, citing a US defense official and a former defense official.
The countries are described in the report as “top contenders to supply troops,” though no country has yet committed to staff the enterprise, the outlet says, citing the current defense official.
On Wednesday, a Trump adviser named Indonesia and Azerbaijan as two countries that could contribute troops to the International Stabilization Force, along with Egypt, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Indonesia is the only country to date that has publicly offered to send troops for the effort, saying it can send 20,000 soldiers to Gaza, while specifying that it would be under a UN-mandated peacekeeping mission — something that is not outlined in Trump’s plan calling for the ISF.
Politico also reports — without a source — that Qatari, Emirati and Egyptian troops will be stationed at a base inside Israel along with US troops to help monitor the ceasefire.
