Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar says he spoke with Anita Orban of Hungary’s Tisza party, following its election victory earlier this week, congratulating her on the win and her expected appointment as foreign minister.
In a post on X, Sa’ar also welcomes the commitment of Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar to continue Hungary’s efforts to combat antisemitism and protect its Jewish community.
“We have a very strong Jewish community living in Hungary, one of the largest, thankfully, in security, safety and peace and zero tolerance in Hungary to all forms of antisemitism,” Magyar said on Monday. “This is going to continue.”
Sa’ar says Israel values its “longstanding and excellent” ties with Hungary and that the two agreed to meet soon after the new government is sworn in.
