Sara Netanyahu turns down a nomination to light a torch at Israel’s Independence Day celebration this year after being nominated by Likud MK Sasson Guetta.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife, his office says, “emphasizes that lighting the torch on Independence Day should be dedicated to the wonderful citizens of Israel, who stand bravely on the front lines and on the home front and continue in mutual responsibility through indescribable acts of kindness” in wartime.
According to the PMO, Sara Netanyahu “asked that this torch also belong to our heroic and courageous soldiers, whose acts of bravery will be spoken of for many years; to the bold pilots who defend Israel, who soar high and reach great distances.”
