Security cabinet to convene at 4 p.m. for talks on Gaza fighting, hostage deal efforts

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene his security cabinet at 4 p.m. today to discuss Gaza and efforts to reach a hostage deal, his office tells The Times of Israel.

The premier’s office declines to say whether Netanyahu will raise the ceasefire and phased hostage-release proposal that Hamas said it accepted last week, though Hebrew media reports it is not on the meeting’s agenda.

In the days following Hamas’s announcement, Netanyahu said he had instructed Israel’s negotiating team to resume talks toward a comprehensive agreement that would secure the release of all hostages and end the war on Israel’s terms, while reiterating his commitment to the cabinet-approved plan to seize control of Gaza City.

Talks are said to be ongoing over the location of the next round of talks, with their timing and the makeup of Israel’s delegation still undecided.
