UN envoy: Quartet report highlights terror, settlements, Gaza
The Middle East Quartet’s upcoming report on the stalled Israeli-Palestinian negotiations will detail three trends that undermine hopes for peace, the UN’s special envoy to the region, Nickolay Mladenov, tells the Security Council.
Mladenov names the three areas of concern as terror, violence and incitement; Israel’s settlement policy in the West Bank; and the fact that Gaza is currently not under the control of the Palestinian Authority.
“Violence, terrorism, and incitement to violence are fundamentally incompatible with advancing a peaceful two-state solution,” he says.
The Quartet hopes to publish the report tomorrow morning, Mladenov tells the Council.
