UN probe to include Operation Brother’s Keeper

The UN Human Rights Council says in a statement that the war crimes panel will have the mandate to probe Israeli actions in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, going back to June 13.

That’s the day Israel launched a search and rescue operation in the West Bank for three teens who had been kidnapped, and — it was later discovered — murdered. The operation, nicknamed Operation Brother’s Keeper, also involved a crackdown on Hamas.

However, the statement says the probe will be focused mostly on Gaza.

William Schabas will head the three-person panel, which is due to present a written report in March 2015.
