US Congress foreign affairs panel passes Holocaust survivors resolution
The United States House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously approves a bipartisan resolution calling on the German government to fund full care for elderly Holocaust survivors.
The resolution, proposed by Democratic Congressman Ted Deutch and Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, urges Berlin to “satisfy its moral responsibility to fully provide for the medical, mental health, and long-term care needs of Holocaust survivors so they may live their remaining days in dignity.”
Praising the passage of the resolution, Deutsch says it “will send a strong message that Congress is closely watching these negotiations [with Germany] and expects an agreement that meets the growing needs of this most vulnerable population in full.”
