With majority of votes counted, Hungarian opposition wins 138 seats at election

BUDAPEST, Hungary — The party of conservative Peter Magyar won a two-thirds parliamentary majority in Sunday’s Hungarian elections in a clear defeat for nationalist long-time Prime Minister Viktor Orban, according to near-complete results.

With 97.35 percent of precincts counted, Magyar’s Tisza party secured 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament on 53.6 percent of the vote, according to official election results.

Fidesz took 55 seats on 37.8 percent of the vote.
