Tel Aviv police expressed fears on Sunday that the suspect behind a shocking Friday night rape in Tel Aviv has fled to the West Bank, the Ynet news website reported.
The suspect, who police believe is an Arab man, is still at large despite police access to DNA evidence, fingerprints, and closed circuit camera footage from the scene.
Earlier Sunday the police had hinted that they were closing in on the man who brutally raped a young woman in a central Tel Aviv parking lot after forcing her and her boyfriend to have sex with each other at knifepoint.
Although police investigators have completed the collection of evidence, the unusual circumstances of the rape have raised numerous questions.
“That he attacked a couple is extremely rare, as was his request that they have intercourse in front of him before raping the girl,” Prof. Danny Gamishi, the head of the criminology department at the College of Management Academic Studies, told Yedioth Ahronoth.

According to the initial investigation, the couple, both aged 18, entered the garage next to Tel Aviv City Hall at 3:30 a.m. to get their car, and the perpetrator took advantage of the deserted garage and the late hour. Police forensic experts collected DNA samples and fingerprints from the scene of the crime, and reviewed the garage’s security camera footage.
