Regional Cooperation Minister Esawi Frej was hospitalized in intensive care after suffering a stroke on Tuesday.

Frej, 58, was rushed from his office to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv earlier in the day for an unspecified ailment.

A spokesperson for the Meretz lawmaker said Frej had a “light cerebral incident” but was fully conscious and speaking.

The spokesperson added that Frej would remain at the hospital’s neurological intensive care unit for monitoring, saying “in cases like these there is always a concern for deterioration” in the patient’s condition.

Fellow lawmakers wished Frej a speedy recovery.

“Feel better and return to us quickly,” tweeted Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.
