Palestinian gets 17 years for stabbing Ra’anana man in 2015
Tareq Dweik, now 24, of East Jerusalem, also ordered to pay $22,560 to victim, who was lightly hurt

A Palestinian man from East Jerusalem was sentenced on Monday to 17 years behind bars for attempted murder in the stabbing of an Israeli man in the central city of Ra’anana two years ago.
The Lod District Court sentenced Tareq Dweik, 24, of Beit Hanina in northeastern Jerusalem, also ordering him to pay his victim compensation of NIS 80,000 ($22,560).
The victim, 34, suffered light wounds to his upper body after Dweik attacked him at a bus stop on a main street in the city, north of Tel Aviv.
Dweik was taken into custody with serious injuries after he was beaten by passersby, police and MDA officials said at the time.

On Thursday, another East Jerusalem Palestinian, Khaled Basti, was jailed for 21 years and ordered to pay compensation of NIS 145,000 ($41,000) for a separate stabbing attack in Ra’anana that also took place in October 2015.
Basti, 30, stabbed four people, injuring one seriously, at a city bus stop and was beaten and wrestled into submission by passersby, sustaining serious injuries.
Both attacks took place at the start of a wave of stabbing and car-ramming attacks by Palestinians on Israelis, which began in the autumn of 2015.
