Police arrested a man suspected of reckless homicide after his housemate died following hours of heavy drinking at their apartment in Haifa on Wednesday.

Tatyana Krasymenko, 53, was found unconscious by Magen David Adom paramedics and was declared dead at the scene, according to an MDA statement.

Her body was taken to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for an autopsy.

The Walla news site reported that a preliminary police investigation found the two had been drinking for many hours before the suspect sobered up, realized Krasymenko was unconscious, and called an ambulance.

The suspect is set to appear before the Haifa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for a hearing, where police are expected to request that he be kept in custody.

His public defense attorney denied the suspicions, noting that his client had called for aid.

“We are convinced that the matter will be cleared up in court and he will be released promptly,” the lawyer said.
