A seven-year-old girl was pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed at Tel Hashomer hospital early Friday afternoon, Ynet News reported. She had been swept away by an overflowing stream earlier in the day and later discovered by rescue teams near Modiin Illit, a city situated midway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
The girl was visiting Nahal Modiin with her father when dangerous weather conditions apparently caused them to lose visual contact with one other.
Rescue workers were sent to the scene immediately, and the child was found some distance from where she was last seen, Ynet reported.
Resuscitation efforts were underway as the girl, unconscious and suffering from hypothermia, was rushed via helicopter to a nearby hospital. Army radio reported that she was in critical condition.
Hospital officials said the girl had no pulse when she was brought in and that her body temperature was extremely low. Doctors worked for an hour in an effort to revive her, but their efforts were to no avail.

The girl’s father was at home when he received news of her death.
In another weather-related tragedy, an ambulance skidded off the road killing a 96-year-old woman inside, reported Ynet. The accident was presumably caused by icy road conditions between Sderot and Ashkelon.
