Robbie Williams said set to entertain Israel in summer 2023

British pop star Robbie Willams is set to give a concert next summer in Tel Aviv, according to Hebrew media reports Saturday.

The Walla and Ynet websites both cited industry sources as saying the award-winning performer was booked for a show in Yarkon Park on June 1, 2023.

Walla added that fellow British musician Sam Smith and US rapper Machine Gun Kelly will arrive a day earlier to perform as part of a planned two-day “festival of music.”

Williams, 48, last performed in Israel in 2015 when he gave a concert at Yarkon Park attended by over 35,000 people.

Last month Williams stirred interest in Israel when he posted a video of Israeli singer-songwriter Noga Erez performing her song “Nails” along with a comment “Can this person be the next biggest person pls? Asking for a friend.”

Erez herself responded to the post, writing back, “this person loves you!”

Williams got his start as part of the popular British boy band Take That, later embarking on a solo career after feuding with the other band members. He has sold more than 75 million albums over his 33-year career.

Smith was last week invited to perform at the White House to celebrate US President Joe Biden signing a same-sex marriage bill.

Israel has for years has been confronting a pro-Palestinian campaign calling for boycotts, divestment, and sanctions. Some artists have pulled out after pressure from boycott campaigners, while others have shrugged off calls to stay away.

A number of big name acts have canceled planned concerts in Israel over the past few months.

Justin Bieber in September scrapped an upcoming Tel Aviv concert due to “ill health,” apparently referring to a syndrome causing partial facial paralysis that he was recently diagnosed with and that caused him to cancel a number of gigs.

Then in November, the Red Hot Chili Peppers canceled their 2023 show citing scheduling issues. The band had already postponed its planned appearance in the Jewish state twice — in 2020 and in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier this month Canadian diva Celine Dion canceled her long-awaited tour including a May 31, 2023 performance at Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium, citing a health condition that makes it difficult for her to perform.
