A unit of Sony Corp. will integrate computer vision and deep learning sensing software developed by Israeli startup eyeSight Technologies into its interactive projector, allowing both touch and touch-free interactions.
The Israeli company said it would collaborate with Sony Mobile Communications Inc., a maker of video, games, and communications for consumer and professional users, to integrate its sensing technology into Sony Mobile’s Xperia Touch — a portable Android projector that enables the projection of images and content on flat surfaces and turns them into interactive touchscreens. Now, with the integration of eyeSight’s sensing technology and relying on the device’s built-in camera, users will be able to control the content projected from afar, without the need to physically touch a surface.
People who already have an Xperia Touch will be able to add the new feature through an update Sony has released, Liat Rostock, marketing director at eyeSight, told The Times of Israel, declining to reveal the dollar amount of the collaboration deal with Sony Mobile. “For a company such as Sony to incorporate our technology into their device is a show of confidence in the quality of our solution,” she said.
“We aim to offer our customers the most intelligent and advanced user experiences, and with the synergy between our touch and voice-based interaction and eyeSight’s touch-free gestures, we’re able to fulfill that promise,” said Hiroshi Ito, deputy head of Smart Product Business Group at Sony Mobile, in a statement.
eyeSight, a maker provider of embedded computer vision and deep learning software, brings gesture recognition technologies to a variety of devices and industries, including the car, the home, and other consumer electronics.
Last month, eyeSight said its sensor technology that alerts drivers when they are distracted or drowsy had been incorporated into a SEAT car.
