A 15-year-old boy from northern Israel was killed Monday after part of a statue collapsed on him while he was exercising.

Karim Riada, a resident of the Druze town of Hurfeish, sustained critical wounds to his head and spine at Monfort Lake Park in the nearby city of Maalot-Tarshiha, where medics said he was found unconscious.

He was rushed to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, where he was pronounced dead.

Riada was apparently doing pull-ups on the statue — a stone gate — when a piece of it collapsed.

“At this stage we do not consider it appropriate to relate to the circumstances of the case and we will wait for the findings of the investigation and the initial probe that will be performed by law enforcement,” the Ma’alot Tarshiha Municipality said.

“We are sorry for the outcome of the difficult incident and share in the deep sorrow of the youth’s family.”
