The Police Internal Investigations Department arrested three Border Police officers Sunday on suspicion that they carried out armed robbery and aggravated assault of several Palestinians, the Walla news website reported.

The officers are suspected of preying on Palestinians who were seeking to enter to Israel via a crossing in the south of the country, physically assaulting them and taking money from them.

The report did not say exactly when or where the incidents allegedly happened.

The officers are to be brought for a remand hearing at the Beersheba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the report said.

Israel Police said in a statement that it was an “unusual incident” and that if the suspicions were confirmed the officers would be thrown out of the Border Police force.
