NEW YORK (JTA) — Three Jewish educators are being honored with Covenant Foundation grants.

The recipients of the annual grants given for excellence in Jewish education in America are Howard Blas, director of the Tikvah program at Camp Ramah in New England; Judy Finkelstein-Taff, head of school at the Chicago Jewish Day School; and Zion Ozeri, founder and creative director of the New York-based Jewish Lens, which uses photography and more traditional text-based learning in its programming.

Each winner receives $36,000; their institutions each get $5,000.

“The programs they have initiated, the institutions they have enriched, and the influence they have had on their students, their peers, and the community at large is enormous,” said Eli Evans, the foundation’s board chairman.

The recipients will be honored Oct. 27 at a dinner in Chicago. It is the 23rd year for The Covenant Foundation grants.
