A 2-year-old boy was killed in northern Israel on Monday after he fell off a bike he was riding the yard of his family home, police and medics said.

The boy suffered a serious head wound from the fall, which occurred in the predominantly Arab city of Baka al-Gharbiya, a police spokesperson said.

“When we arrived, we saw the infant unconscious, suffering from a serious head injury,” Sophie Rosenberg, a first responder, said. “We gave him primary life-saving medical care, including anesthesia and respiration.”

Paramedics rushed him to the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, but he was declared dead upon arrival, police said.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
