Two people were killed in separate incidents late Wednesday, police said, as a spate of violent crime continued in Israel.

In the northern town of Umm al-Fahm, a man in his 20s was shot and killed. In the southern port city of Eilat, a man in his 40s was stabbed to death in what police described as “a violent incident.”

The man killed in Umm al-Fahm arrived at a local clinic, with critical injuries and was taken to the nearby Emek hospital in Afula, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police said they were investigating the incident.

In Eilat, medics said they found the man lifeless near a caravan park and declared him dead.

Police said they had detained a 45-year-old Eilat resident in connection with the stabbing.

The deaths bring to 14 people killed over the last two weeks. The majority of the murder victims over the past week were from Arab communities, which have seen a surge in violence in recent years. Many blame the police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia turf wars, and violence against women. The communities have also suffered from years of neglect.

The Abraham Initiatives, which monitors and campaigns against violence in the Arab community, said that the killing brings the number of Arabs killed in Israel in 2022 as a result of violence and crime to 45.
