IDF reservist dies during training

A 44-year-old IDF reserves soldier collapsed and died during military training on Sunday.

The soldier, who has not been named, had complained of chest pains after a routine training exercise. He later collapsed and was taken for treatment.

Doctors were unable to revive the soldier, and were forced to pronounce his death.

The soldier, a resident of central Israel, had no preexisting medical preconditions, according to the Walla news website.

The IDF has launched an investigation into the incident, and said it could not immediately determine the cause of death.

Last week, a 20-year-old IDF soldier was in serious condition after he sustained a snakebite in the Golan Heights. The soldier’s condition was improving on Monday, according to doctors in Safed’s Ziv Hospital.

“The youth is communicating with the medical staff and his relatives, is eating and drinking and is walking by himself through the ward,” a doctor told the Walla news site.

In early August, an 18-year-old soldier died of heatstroke in Jerusalem during a sweltering heatwave.

The soldier, Private Dan Sela from the northern city of Afula, collapsed during an educational tour of Jerusalem’s Old City and was transferred to nearby Shaare Zedek Medical Center in serious condition with a dangerously high body temperature of 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
