Meitar border crossing closed due to environmental hazard
Strong odors emanating from nearby waste separation facility prompt closure
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe pedestrian and commercial crossing at Meitar, south of Hebron, has been closed until further notice. Authorities cited a severe health hazard caused by an sewage treatment facility near the crossing, Ynet news reported on Thursday.

Strong odors pervaded the area and the Defense Ministry decided to minimize activities at the crossing and the number of employees on site.
The crossing, one of several connecting Israel to the West Bank, is operated by the Crossings Authority, a part of the Defense Ministry.
