Police capture Palestinian seen wielding ax in Jerusalem

A Palestinian man seen wielding a weapon believed to be an ax or a hammer was captured by police officers Sunday after a chase in Jerusalem.

Officers pursued the suspect from the Ramot checkpoint to Pisgat Zeev, a distance of about eight kilometers (five miles), where he was finally arrested. The weapon was not found and a second suspect seen with the man was not caught.

Police said the suspect was first spotted by passersby near the Ramot Mall carrying an ax or hammer and started fleeing on foot when he noticed police cars on his tail.

Officers were forced to give chase on foot after a certain time and fired a warning shot into the air.

The Palestinian man did not have a residential permit, according to Hebrew media reports, and was taken in for interrogation.
