A truck driver struck and seriously injured a motorcyclist on a main thoroughfare in Tel Aviv on Saturday afternoon, then abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene of the accident.

Police were searching for the hit-and-run driver who parked his truck in an alley on Menachem Begin Boulevard after hitting a moped rider. After responding to the scene of the accident, investigators found the truck’s license plate on the pavement, and shortly thereafter found the truck parked between two buildings further down the road.

Authorities had not yet found the suspect.

Eyewitnesses told Ynet that the rider “was literally thrown from the bike — he flew through the air as the truck continued to drive.”

The victim of the accident was treated by Magen David Adom paramedics and taken to the nearby Sourasky Medical Center Ichilov in serious condition.
