The head of the Knesset’s Fire and Rescue Services committee said she was “hysterical” and it was “not funny” when she found herself trapped in an elevator in an Eilat hotel with three giggling lawmakers on Wednesday.
Nava Boker was seen yelling into a phone, “I’m hysterical,” on a video of the incident filmed by maverick fellow Likud MK Oren Hazan, who was trapped with her in the crowded elevator along with Yisrael Beytenu’s Oded Forer, Zionist Union’s Lea Fadida and several other people.
They were attending a conference of insurance agents in the Dan Eilat Hotel when they got trapped. Hazan uploaded his video to his Facebook page.
As the others broke up laughing, a plainly discomfited Boker said into her mobile phone, quite calmly, “It’s not funny. There are four MKs who think this is a joke. I’m hysterical, and they…”
But the others just laughed even harder, insensitive to her discomfort.
“I can’t,” said Boker, gradually becoming more stressed and holding her head. “It isn’t funny. Stop already.”
Forer suggested that Hazan entertain the crowd while they waited, or say a few word of Torah.
“Idiot,” retorted Boker as Hazan then taunted her with cries of, “What happened? What happened Nava? What happened?”
When a responder called in on the elevator’s emergency phone, Hazan clownishly pretended to order food. “Can you send up two espressos, two coronas and a tray of sweets please?” he said.
After several minutes, the doors were opened and the MKs and those with them were rescued.
Still filming, Hazan asked, “Nava, how would you sum it up? She lost 17 pounds in 10 minutes.”
Boker was not impressed with her fellow lawmaker’s behavior. “I’m on the verge of tears, and he’s laughing,” she said.
Forer tweeted afterwards, “Don’t get your hopes up — we were rescued in the end… But it was certainly a funny 15 minutes.”
Hazan continued to taunt Boker on social media, tweeting, “The main thing is that the chairman of the Knesset Rescue Committee, MK Nava Boker, kept her cool.”
