Police said Thursday that the explosion the previous evening in the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem was probably caused by the detonation of an explosive device that was being assembled.

In the aftermath of the blast on the fourth floor of the residential building., investigators found further explosives at the scene and arrested eight suspects.

A man was seriously injured in the explosion, and was taken to hospital.

Police, Border Police, sappers and crime scene investigators arrived on the scene to gather evidence and open an investigation, police said.

The Israeli officers reportedly faced disturbances and had to use crowd-dispersal measures when they left the area. No further details were given.
