A man’s body was found Monday morning after a brush fire was extinguished in the northern city of Tiberias, police said in a statement.

The remains were discovered in an area close to the city’s soccer field which is located on Bar Kochba Street.

Police said emergency services were alerted to the fire at 7 a.m. After extinguishing the flames, the body was found in what police described as an improvised outdoor “lounge” area composed of mattresses and couches.

The identity of the man and the circumstances of his death were not immediately clear.

Police opened an investigation into the incident and together with fire service investigators began gathering evidence from the site.
