A 60-year-old man succumbed to his wounds on Thursday evening at Rishon Lezion’s Shamir Medical Center after he was shot at point-blank range earlier in the day in the central town.
The victim, who Hebrew media described as a well-known contractor from Rishon Lezion, exited a taxi in the town when he was approached by the suspect. Police said they exchanged a few words before the gunman fired and fled.
The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. Doctors were forced to declare his death shortly thereafter.
Police launched an investigation and a manhunt for the suspect, who remained at large on Thursday night. Officers believe that the local contractor knew the shooter.
Separately, a 35-year-old man was shot by a gunman who fired from a passing vehicle in the northern city of Acre on Thursday. He was said to sustain moderate to severe injuries after bullets struck his leg. Police said the 35-year-old victim owned a hookah shop in the city and was known to police. He was being treated at the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya.
