Court remands two suspects in Jerusalem gas explosion
Gas worker and renovations contractor suspected of causing death of fellow gas technician by negligence

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday extended the remand of two suspects — a contractor and a gas technician — in connection with a gas explosion in the capital the day before that killed another gas worker and lightly injured three people.
The explosion was apparently caused by a gas leak that sprung as the two technicians worked on the pipes beneath an apartment undergoing renovation.
The dead man, pulled out from the rubble of an underground garage whose ceiling partially collapsed due to the blast, was named as Muhammad Ibrahim Halil Abu Tin, 33, a Jerusalem resident.
The technician under arrest was identified as Shlomo Menachem, 30. His remand was extended until February 25.

The contractor for the renovations, who was not named, had his detention extended until February 23.
Both are suspected of causing death by negligence.
A 62-year-old woman and a couple in their 70s suffered minor injuries as a result of the explosion on Dan Street, in the neighborhood of Baka, south of the city center, and were sent to Hadassah Hospital Ein Karem, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The couple has since been released.
The explosion also caused severe damage to one of the apartments in the residential building.
