Fire breaks out in Galilee minefield

Several explosions heard near Kibbutz Snir; firefighters able to douse flames

A fire erupted late Saturday afternoon in a minefield near Kibbutz Snir, in the Upper Galilee.

Several explosions were heard in the vicinity, indicating that a number of mines had exploded.

Firefighters were able to douse the fire after deploying two helicopters and receiving assistance from the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.

Route 99 was closed to traffic following the incident. No casualties were reported.
