Four incidents of rape in Tel Aviv were reported to police in the space of just 24 hours over the weekend, with suspects arrested in three of the cases.

Three women and one man complained they had been assaulted in separate incidents. By Saturday night, three men had been arrested in connection with the alleged assaults.

On Friday night a woman in her 20s complained a man she had met in a nightclub on Shlomo Ibn Gabirol Street had raped her in the bathroom at the premises. The suspect, 21, from the northern city of Hadera, was located a short time later and, after being questioned by police, released under restrictive conditions.

The same evening, a woman of about 20 reported to police that she had hosted a man she was acquainted with in her apartment, and that he had raped her. The suspect, who was reportedly drunk, was arrested later in the area of her apartment.

Police said both cases are still under investigation.

On Saturday night a man in his 20s, from the central city of Ramle, was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman after spending the evening with her, the Hebrew news site Walla reported. The woman, also in her 20s, met the suspect on Friday night at a club on Ben Avigdor Street in Tel Aviv. After she got into his car, the suspect raped her, she said. He was to be brought to Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court for a remand hearing on Sunday.

Also Saturday, a man, 19, from the Sharon region, complained to police that he was raped after leaving a club on Carlebach Street in Tel Aviv. An investigation was opened into the incident, but no suspects have yet been arrested.

According to police figures there were 1,072 rape investigations opened during 2016 in Israel.
