A 45-year-old Israeli extreme sports enthusiast was killed in Italy Thursday, crashing while attempting a wingsuit jump from the Alps’ highest mountain, Mont Blanc.
Yonatan Tarango made the jump from a height of 3,250 meters (10,600 feet) with a friend. He apparently glided too close to the slope and hit it at around 2,200 (7,000 feet) meters.
Tarango had been living in Spain in recent years. He had taken part in numerous wingsuit jumps in the past.
The Foreign Ministry said it was working with Tarango’s family to bring his body back to Israel for burial.
