Miss the last month’s ten-shekel movie day? Not to worry, that was just for Israeli flicks.
The latest Cinema Day, taking place Thursday, October 23, is for all regular and 3D films, at every movie theater in Israel. (Regular films will cost NIS 10, while 3D films will cost NIS 14.)
More than 40 movie theaters are participating in Cinema Day, with some opening their doors at 11 a.m., allowing movie fans to see a selection of flicks in the course of the day.
The participating cinema chains include Yes Planet, Cinema City, Rav Hen, Lev, Globus and Globus Max. All the movies shown in the cinemas, the international films as well as the local Israeli films, will be screened at the discounted prices.
The first Cinema Day was held last year and ended up drawing 150,000 movie fans. Danny Kafri, the Cinema Industry Association Director, said its tremendous success made it clear that Cinema Day should become an annual tradition.
Despite people’s love for their home screens, movie-going in Israel is increasing in popularity. According to the Cinema Industry Association, 14 million movie tickets were sold in 2013, which was one million more than in the previous year. Since 2005, there has been a rise of 80 percent in movie ticket sales.
Tickets for Cinema Day can be purchased via the movie theaters’ websites, with no restrictions on the number of tickets purchased per person.
