Jewish man held for vandalizing Jerusalem synagogue
Police believe suspect in his 40s sprayed black crosses on outer walls on two occasions, including during Yom Kippur
A Jewish man was arrested for spraying black crosses on the wall of a Jerusalem synagogue during the Jewish fast day of Yom Kippur, the Israel Police said Thursday.
Police said this was the second time that the synagogue on Yossi Ben Yoezer Street in the Katamon neighborhood of the capital was targeted n this way.
The suspect was identified as a Jerusalem resident in his 40s, but police gave no further details.
He is suspected of carrying out the vandalism both on Yom Kippur, which this year was marked from sundown Tuesday to Wednesday night, and in the previous incident about one month ago, police said.
The motives for the vandalism were not immediately clear. Police said the suspect was still being questioned and would be charged in Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court.
