Join ToI Community for an evening of learning and levity with Benji Lovitt

In a ToI Community exclusive live comedy event on Tuesday, June 29, Lovitt will show us pivotal moments in Israeli history – and the humor that accompanied them

It’s been nearly a year and a half since the start of the pandemic, and we’re all in need of some levity. So get ready to laugh — and learn — in a special comedy event featuring Benji Lovitt, exclusive for the Times of Israel Community.

It’s been said that the Jewish people have laughed to keep from crying, and in Israel’s short lifetime, citizens of the Jewish state have had much to cry about — while daily celebrating miracles. Fortunately, Sabras are a resilient bunch and have developed a unique tradition and sense of humor while coping with adversity.

Join us for a live Zoom event on Tuesday, June 29, as Lovitt shows us pivotal moments in Israeli history — and the humor that accompanied them. We’ll view clips from classic Israeli movies, TV shows, and other media, exploring Israeli comedic masterpieces such as “Sallah Shabati,” the brilliant Ephraim Kishon, and some of Israel’s best contemporary comedies.

Learn about the Middle East, Israel and what makes it all so funny from Lovitt, a comedian and educator who moved to the Holy Land in 2006 and has performed for audiences around the world including Hillels, Birthright Israel, Jewish Federations, JCCs, Masa Israel Journey, and more.

Join the Times of Israel Community today to catch this comedy special. You’ll also gain access to all of our exclusive online content, an ad-free experience of the ToI site and apps, and a weekly insider letter from David Horovitz.

The live Zoom event will take place Tuesday, June 29, at 7 p.m. Israel time, 5 p.m. UK time, and 12 p.m. Eastern time.

Members will receive a link to the event in a Community email. If you can’t make it to the live event, don’t worry — a recording of it will be available on the Community page after the event.
