1 killed in mysterious blast at Spanish resort

One person has been killed and 17 people injured in an explosion at a block of flats in a Spanish seaside resort near Barcelona, rescuers say.

It is not immediately clear what caused the blast which took place in the residential building in Premia de Mar, a resort town some 25 kilometers (15 miles) north of Barcelona.

“The explosion happened at 8:25 am (0625 GMT) injuring 17 and killing one person,” a spokeswoman for Barcelona’s fire brigade tells AFP.

Local media show images of a fire burning in a seven-story building, saying the structure had been evacuated while investigators tried to determine what caused the blast.
