House fires broke out in nine separate buildings in Beersheba overnight, in what officials suspect to be a string of arson incidents throughout the southern city.

Firefighters rescued 15 people from the burning buildings and extinguished blazes that broke out in building lobbies, electrical cabinets and bomb shelters, says a Fire and Rescue Service spokesman.

Fire and Rescue Service investigators are present at the scenes and say that initial findings show at least two of the nine fires were set intentionally.

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of causing the fires, Hebrew outlets report.
