The Eurovision song contest will take place next year at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds, a senior Finance Ministry official tells the Haaretz daily.
The site is the only one in Israel that meets all of the Eurovision’s production requirements, the official says.
The Kan Public Broadcaster is currently negotiating the production budget for the event, which is expected to cost between $16 and $22 million.
A tender will soon be published to host the event, but Haaretz says the Jerusalem municipality is not even expected to compete in the auctioning.
Hod Hasharon native Netta Barzilai’s victory in this year’s contest meant that Israel would host next year’s competition. Since the win last month, Culture Minister Miri Regev has vowed that the event would be hosted in Israel’s capital Jerusalem or would not take place in Israel at all.
