Gunmen shot dead two wounded members of Egypt’s security forces in an ambulance after they had been injured by a bombing in the Sinai Peninsula, security officials say.
A medic in the ambulance was also killed in the ambush in the town of Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai, where the jihadist Islamic State group is spearheading an insurgency.
Inside the ambulance were three security personnel who had been wounded just minutes previously in a blast targeting their armoured vehicle, a senior security officer in El-Arish tells AFP.
“When the ambulance left the site of the blast with the wounded security members it came under attack from gunmen,” the officer says, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Two wounded security personnel and a medic were killed in the ambush,” he said, without specifying whether the dead were in the police or army.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
