The IDF believes that raids based on new intelligence, like the operation at Shifa Hospital and others in northern Gaza, are a more effective way to operate against Hamas.

The offensive in Khan Younis did what it set out to do, according to the IDF, with the local Hamas brigade dismantled, thousands of gunmen killed, and around 30 kilometers of tunnels destroyed.

Troops will ultimately return for raids based on new intelligence, similar to how operations are taking place in northern Gaza, according to the IDF.

The 98th Division, which was withdrawn from southern Gaza overnight, also needs time for R&R after four straight months of fighting.
