‘Ring of fire’: Indictments filed against 4 anti-government protesters for torching dumpsters near PM’s home

Four people have been charged with torching garbage receptacles near the Prime Minister’s Residence earlier this month as part of an anti-government protest, the State Attorney’s Office says.
The four are named as Lt. Col. (res.) Amos Doron, a 60-year-old reservist and anti-government protester, Mark Foigel, 57, Shmuel Rueveni, 61, and Eyal Giller, 54.
They are each charged with five counts of committing arson, malicious damage, and obstruction of justice as well as one count each of aggravated destruction of a car, all of which were done as part of a conspiracy to commit the crimes, the indictments allege.
The fires were set during a day of mass protests throughout Jerusalem on September 3 as demonstrators rallied for a hostage deal and end to the war. The blazes spread to destroy a local resident’s car and forced residents in nearby buildings to evacuate their homes. No injuries were reported.
According to the charge sheet filed in Jerusalem District Court, the four intended to create a “ring of fire” around Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Rehavia residence, plotting and coordinating their actions in advance, including casing the dumpsters they planned on setting alight ahead of time.
The prosecution has asked the court to deny bail for the four until the end of legal proceedings. Judge Mordechai Burstyn refused requests by the defendants attorneys to have the men released to house arrest.
