Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the Shabbat bill could be delayed to a later date, unless the opposition agrees to offset the absence of Jewish Home MK Moti Yogev — whose mother died on Monday — with Zionist Union Yossi Yonah, who was observing the seven-day mourning period over the death of his brother.
Speaking at the weekly Likud faction meeting, Netanyahu says coalition chairman David Amsalem was waiting for a final answer from the opposition.
“We will track the numbers and decide whether to raise the proposal accordingly,” says Netanyahu.
The bill, which could shutter mini-markets on Saturdays, was scheduled to be brought to its final votes overnight Monday-Tuesday, barring any changes. It had been delayed last week after the death of Likud MK Yehudah Glick’s wife on Monday left the coalition without a majority.
