Obama: We could not have struck a deal for no enrichment
Obama tells CNN that opponents to the nuclear accord with Iran have not presented any “plausible alternatives” other than a military option.
“No one has presented any plausible alternative to Iran attaining a nuclear weapon other than military strikes,” Obama says.
Asked why he hadn’t insisted that Iran give up all uranium enrichment, the president says, “You have a consensus in Iran that they should have the right to enrich.”
He adds that “We did not have the support for that position among our global allies.”
And thus, “in the real world, the alternatives you just described were not available.”
