Qatar accuses Israel of “dragging its feet” by rejecting the Board of Peace roadmap for Gaza, and says it has been doing so throughout the war in the Strip.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari says that Qatar hopes that the international community will pressure Israel to implement the second phase of the US-backed 20-point plan for Gaza.
Hamas has agreed to the plan, says Ansari, and now responsibility lies with Israel.
Ansari says that practical steps will be announced by Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt to move the Gaza plan forward.
On US-Iran talks, Ansari says that the priority is to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and to restore the pre-war situation in the waterway. Any future arrangements around the strait, he says, should be based on “regional concurrence and full respect for international law.”
