Three Israelis were attacked with a sharp object in the Cyprus capital of Nicosia yesterday, with one victim sustaining injuries, according to local media.

The assault reportedly took place in the city center. One of the Israelis suffered an injury to the ear and received medical treatment following the incident, local media say. The victim’s condition was not immediately clear.

Police launched a manhunt after the attack and later arrested two suspects identified as men of Syrian origin, reports say. The suspects were taken to the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department headquarters for questioning.

Police said investigators were working to determine how the confrontation began and whether the attack was racially motivated. The investigation remains ongoing.

“I am deeply shocked by the violent attack against Israeli citizens in Nicosia, targeted solely because of their visibly Jewish appearance,” Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus Oren Anolik writes on X. “Such antisemitic violence has no place in Cyprus.”
